Well I have a 9 yr old diabetic Yorkie and my Vet recommended prescription Hills diet for diabetics, but I found the Royal Canin diabetic food works better for him, he went from 23 pounds down to 14.6 his last Vet visit on 8/8. This is a dry kibble and I add a tablespoon of ground boiled hamburger for more protein and flavor. He eats a 1/4 cup twice a day so he can have his insulin shots after he eats. I've been able to cut his insulin use in half!
I have 2 other Yorkies an 8 yr old and 4 yr old and after speaking to one of our Yorkie volunteers that has done a lot of research into commercial dog foods, I feed them Wellness weight management dry kibble, again I add a tablespoon of the ground boiled hamburger for them.
I have no problems with them eating their food and they are very healthy. My 4 year old is extremely muscular and my Vet is amazed when she examines him.
They all have beautiful teeth and even my 9 year old has never had to have his teeth cleaned they are in perfect condition and Yorkies are usually known to have bad teeth.
