In Response to RE: Help!!! (the baby has loose bowels for one day now) by Blkicemom
My two dogs have GI sensitivities to certain "treats" such as "Marrowbones." I avoid them and any similar treats.
Pumpkin and sweet potato were recommended by my vet. The pumpkin is a lot easier to use. I mix in a bit of brown rice.
If you don't want to throw away the extra pumpkin (from the can)...it is easy to freeze individual portions in a muffin tin, wrap the individually frozen pumpkin in plastic wrap and store in your freezer in a Zip-Loc bag. Take it out and thaw as needed. I thaw it in the microwave.
I do use it fairly regularly for the extra fiber it gives them. My doggies have "anal gland" issues and it keeps the secretions from building up and causing discomfort. I feed them a premium quality dry dog food, but the Maltese is a finicky eater and wants a little "wet food" as well. I give him a half container of "Little Ceasar" or the equivalent amount of diced chicken each evening to keep him happy. The Japanese Chin joyfully munches on the dry stuff.
