In Response to RE: I wish I could do more for rescue dogs by mkroll7
I am filled with admiration for dog foster-caregivers. We came by our wonderful dog via a foster "mom" in Evansville, Indiana. Not only did she care for Chelsea (a border collie), but she literally saved her. Chelsea was dumped by her owners at the local humane society. She was covered with mats, and dying of heartworm. Such dogs are always put down: it's just too costly to treat them. But the foster mom, a volunteer, could not accept this. She passed the hat, got Chelsea the medicine she needed, and saw her through convalescence. Three weeks later, we drove from Michigan to get our dog. The wonderful person responsible wept uncontrollably as she handed us the leash. I could never do what she still does for dogs. I'm not up to a life of constant partings.
