Don't book Grand Circle Travel tours in advance - the price drops dramatically and no refunds are made to those who book in advance. My mother and I made arrangements for a 2 week tour to Egypt and paid in full about 6 months in advance and even bought travel insurance (I feel like a prize idiot confessing that, but we did.) A month and a half before the departure date I received a flyer with our exact trip discounted by $800 a person. Long story short, the amusingly named "customer service" people all have the same story - it's their standard policy, no refunds, no upgrades, no extras for booking in advance, just an apology for sending me the flyer in the first place. I won't go with them again.
wow! that's terrible. I don't understand how companies can do that and not think it won't effect them. If you're looking for similar trips in the future I would suggest you research the similar firms that AARP partners with (Grand European Tours, General Tours, Collette Vacations, etc.) In addition to exclusive AARP member offers from time to time and member discounts, AARP will also go to bat for you if something like this ever occurred.
In any event, hope you still enjoy the trip! EGypt is a great destination.
