My father is in ill health and we had to delay his trip going down to Florida in December. We were booked on Continental and they were very sympathetic and understanding about the delay. "Just call us when he is able to travel again" was what they said. Sadly he was hospitalized again just before his return trip north. I had booked him and my mother on Spirit and called them right away to ask them to hold the reservation until he is well enough to travel. I was informed that there would be penalties. I paid $339 for my parents two tickets and they only credited $157. I lost, therefore, $182 for the privilege of doing business with Spirit. When I wrote to customer assistance, I got some goobledygook response. I will never do business with them again. I prefer an airline with heart. They rely on the senior market on the New York to Florida route - and need to understand that hospitalizations do occur. Taking 54% of the purchase price as a fee is a bit excessive..... They claim to be a "budget" airline -but their prices were the same as everyone else in the market when I bought those tickets.
Thanks so much for posting your experiences with Spirit Airline.
