In Response to Child of Depression Era Parents by BuickCJ
How times have changed. I enjoyed your post. My parents also lived thru the depression (I was born in 45). BUt my mother would never throw anything away. She would take old rags and tear them into strips to sue to time bags, she saved string also for the same reason. She always had a huge garden and canned every year. She used a "ringer" washer until she passed away.
I find myself saving screws, nails, boards( that I may eventually even use) For years I changed the oil on our cars, did all maintenance around our home etc etc. Now I have progressed to saving to reduce our living costs. We do CFL's, have electronics on power strips, keep home heat low in winter and cooling levels modest in summer. .I wait until paint/stain go on sale before buying, etc., drive a hybrid car (aothough savings on gas though significant does not cover the car pymt) and on and on.
