Another use for gallon-size plastic jugs (such as those used for milk) is to clean then, dry them and cut them in half. To make the cut, use a serated knife, sharp sissors or small hand-held saw. The bottom part has numerous uses - some of which already have been suggested (plant coaster, etc.). But the top part (with handle) makes a nifty bird feeder filler. Just turn the cut jug upside down. Place the smaller end about 1/2-inch into the top of a tube-type bird feeder. Slowly pour your bird seed from its bag into the larger end of the jug. Note: Keep holding onto the handle while filling! The bottle will automatically guide the seed into the top of the bird feeder. No spillage! Since the plastic jug is translucent, you can judge how much bird seed it will take to fill your feeder.
