Watch Those Merchandise Credits
AT&T's special offer for U-Verse included a credit for the $100 modem initially charged on the first bill after enrollment for U-Verse Internet Service if you went to the AT&T Store to request the credit. Came through on the next bill as promised, but no credit was given for sales tax originally billed with $100. Pretty slippery. They would not have paid that to the State & locality due to the reversal of the sale on their books, but rather pocketed it if I paid it to them. I called AT&T and they very quickly and quietly credited the sales tax on my next bill. Beware! When merchandise credits are issued, taxes must be credited too.
