WE do several. things regularitly
1.We have a gym that is FREE. I go 5 times a week 3days do water arobics, and two days do cardio and some weights. All excercise classes with instructor are unimited and only iscost $25/month. WE can do as many classes a day as we wish for the $25 per month.
2 A great entertainment time for both wife and I is early am get together with friends - I bike with friends and my wife walks her puppy with frines ( Mtn. bike given to me by my son in law so no cost there). We bike 9 miles (35 -40 minuites) followed by coffee with the guys I bike with and their wives on our front porch. BEst time of day for me - I feel great for hours after the biking.Plus No cost except for Coffee gounds which we get at Costco for about $4/lb
3.Evenng entertainment often centers around activites in our retirement community. This fall we have a number of events to include: Entertainment with w/o dinner - typically $25/person with , without dinner is $15/person. We have a block party catered food with DJ nd dancing for $20. So we take advantage of happenings in our Trilogy retirement neighborhood at a fraction of the cost of "going out" These activities typically include entertainment/dancing
4.Outside of Trilogy we do Matinee movies,b.early bird meals (1/2 to 2/3rd of later fares, c.Use coupons - we sign up for and get coupons via email from our favorite haunts. Gorden BIrch $5 off any $20 restaurant/bar bil is a recent one,we sign up for birtghday specials at several of our favorite restaurants, we get $28 free off a bithday meal at "The Keg" a close by steak house, (both wife and I sign up so we get two meals free. WE also split one meal so cost for the evening is about $10.00 unless drinks are purchased.
5.We have several groups of friends that we spend evenings with - the host couple provides the food and selects the entertainment - typicaly is a game night., includes two other couples and only cost is food (prepared at home).WE do this once a month with each group.
6.For vacation entertainment , we get miles from travel cards AMEX gives us one $90 ticket in continental US each year. plus one bag checked free, plus earn miles for another free ticket about once a year. Another recent example Harrahs had a travel promotion where you earn 60,000 points by visiting 5 of their casinos. We had free rooms, only had to to get one base point (about $5 of gambling at each casino). The result of this was enough points to get 1 1/2 free round airfare to Hawaii on . Our cost was meals and gas for the car. We comibned this trip with a vacation already planned to Yellowstone so we only paid for one night on the way to and none on the way back as we used points we had earned earlier at Choice hotels due to a promotion we took advantage of earlier in the year. They had a stay two night get one night free) promo.
I am cheap and continue to look for ways to save - seems like it is a way of life once you retire.(at least for me)
