I don't know anything about TRICARE, but isn't Medicare headed towards bankruptcy? I mean it's great that it works for you, but this is the issue with many government run systems. If a government system starts running out of money, either taxes go up, benefits are reduced, or Congress ignores it until it becomes a crisis. (Similar to what's happening to Social Secuirty) That's what gives government an unfair advantange over private systems. After 28 years working in IT for a healthcare company, I was recently laid off. Not great for me, but I understand, given the economy. Meahwhile, government tends to be the last to reduce their workforce - even when it's the right thing to do, because it's too political. So unsustainable and inefficient systems remain in place because politicians don't want to be the "bad guy," and therefore be subject to be voted out. That's what happening to California, where I live. It's ridiculous that a state so rich in natural resources can't balance its budget, while having one of the highest income and sales tax rates in the country.
So Medicare is headed towards bankruptcy.....all the more reason to do something about healthcare reform. Like it or not you and every other taxpayer will have to face some reform of health care. It will eventually cost even more if something isn't done about it now.
