Having now seen the trailers for this, it does look like this could be better than I originally expected. Of course director Scott will beef up the battles with larger than life numbers of computer generated zombies and somehow things will explode despite the fact they hadn't discovered gunpowder yet.
Still, the acting looks believable and intense. Crowe is always good at leading a rabble, and I think Cate Blanchett will be a worthwhile Marion. She has ruled England for two films already, afterall, as well as helping Frodo save Middle Earth in his darkest moment.
Oprah Winfrey had Russell Crowe on her show yesterday, to talk about the movie, and despite what some people think about him as a "hot head", I really respect him as a non-Hollywood type! He talked about how the story had been changed over the years, from the original folk story about Robin Hood, and how Ridley Scott wanted to get back to the original. He brought a longbow with him & demonstrated how to string it; I think he would have liked to show how to use it, but they hadn't set any target up for him to do that safely.
I don't watch Oprah often, but it really annoys me that if her guests actually think about the questions, and speak a little slowly, she answers for them & puts words in their mouths about what she thinks they plan to say. I was happy that Russell stood his ground & a few times said, "No, ..." and went on to say what he meant to say. I wonder how that trait will stand her in the more "interview" type of setting she plans to move into.
