Persepolis, an animated movie by an Iranian-American woman. it was very moving, and beautiful.
I also love the claymation movies of Wallace and Gromit. They're not just for children!
Spirited away, and My Friend Totoro are awesome movies.
Let me also add Grave of the Fireflies. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grave_of_the_Fireflies
Its an anime film about two children in wartime Japan. I bought it thinking it would be a good thing to show my children about war illustrating how everyone suffers in wartime, even our 'enemies.' However, i watched it and found it so devastating that there's no way i could show it to my kids. At least not until they're adults.
I guess i still stand by Persepolis. Though Grave of the Fireflies is really superb. Its just so sad....
a movie nut from way back
