If any of you are entertainers and are looking for more paying venues, here's a tip: there's a whole 'senior entertainment circuit' among senior facilities (nursing homes, indep. or assisted living ctrs, etc.).You can get anywhere from $50-$250 for a 1-hr. long performance (pay varies by the type of entertainment and the facility's budget), usually at times that don't compete with the higher-paying 'gigs': in the morning or afternoon 7 days/wk. or, at some places, weekday evenings. One booking can turn into your being one of their 'regulars', if you like, or you can keep it on an occasional, as-available basis. Some places pay people to provide various types of programs at their facilities anywhere from 7-33 times in an average month. I've made close to $800/mo. just doing 3-4 programs a wk (on Tues. or Thurs. & 2 on 1 Wed. night per month) at 10 'client' facilities who pay me $50-$60 to read poetry or short stories or do other presentations. It's rewarding, fun, involves minimal time investment (1 hr., max.), is flexible to most schedules, & benefits others while fueling the local economy. 'Work' doesn't get much better than that!
