Recently I took my wife for a birthday adventure, river rafting on the Yampa at Cross Creek Mountain with outfitters out of Steamboat Springs, CO. It was advertised as mostly class 3 rapids with an occasional class4. What they didn't tell you was be prepared to be tossed out into 1500 cfs river flow and require a rescue. Out of 5 boats (32 people) only one boat of 6 persons made it down the river without capsizing, some people went in multiple times! Ask bunches of questions before you go as to the level of swimming and the likelihood of having to swim for your life! Not for the faint of heart, non-swimmer or anyone with health issues. Always assume that they will underestimate the difficulty level. Was not a good experience for us even though I am a good swimmer and kayaker. It took three tries before I got hauled in. Bumps and bruises are the norm. My poor wife, God bless her, got tossed as well and thankfully made it out with minor cuts and bruising, never to return to the river.
