My husband and I are 70 years of age. We adopted our 10 year old great grandson, prior to the adoption he was covered under the state Medicaid program, after the adoption we exceeded the state guidelinesof income by $700. Medicare does not have a policy to cover minor children unless they are disabled. I tried to buy a policy for him and hit a really big brick wall. No insurance co will issue a policy for a sinfle child under 19. I contacted my congressman Mike Turner, no response, my state rep. Clayton Luckie and my governors office, children services and my state insurance board.I have been given the same answer each and every time, this is political and that is the way it is. If this adoption had gone through the state he would have had health cover with no questions asked, regardless of my income with no questions asked. But, since it was private than I am denied everywhere I go. What differances should it make , private or state, this child deserves ins. and I am unable to provide it , even buy him a policy. This 10 yr old boy is falling through the cracks of our political system. Are there others out there having the same problem? I don't believe I am the only grandparent having this problem. welcome all comments and suggestions.
