I think it is overeating that's the problem rather than what is served. Also, I never heard of green bean casserole for Thanksgivng till I was 40 or so, which is high in sodium --canned onions and canned soup. As a soup appetizer, I am serving pumpkin soup, made with just canned mashed pumpkin, a little ginger, a little salt, and skim milk. You can add whole milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, & a little sugar at option. Must be served very hot.
I've gotten hooked on Wolfgang Puck's squash soup, but I think that's savory rather than sweet. I ought to try your recipe.
