Yes, unfortunately, my whole family has high cholesterol, so I have to be extra careful. You are right, I am sure there are foods I could eliminate from my diet. But for the most part, I eat healthy. I don't buy chips or cookies, simply because I can't stay out of them.
I watch my salt intake and I try to walk everyday.
What are the biggest things to think about removing?
I had a gall bladder attack some years ago now and it was caused by high cholesterol. Before thinking about surgery I told my doctor I wanted to try diet and I have not had an attack since.
Astraea is right; animal products, full fat cheese, milk, butter, lard, ice cream, eggs.... but substitute skim or 1% milk and the same for all dairy; use olive oil instead of saturated fats/oil or any kind, and chicken or fish. Use whole grains and read the packages. cholesterol is listed.
Once you get used to the substitutes there is really lots you can eat. good luck.
