I see it in my grandchildren as their parents answer crankiness with food. Then at mealtimes the kids eat almost nothing. And in most instances, the grandchildren rule. I don't understand where my children got those methods of parenting.
As a parent, our children sat down together for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with no snacks in between. On special occasions in the evening, popcorn was allowed.
We were raised the same way. We always ate together as a family, and we ate a little of everything. We could take seconds of what we preferred, but we had to eat everything the first time around. We also weren't allowed snacks except after school, we were allowed Ritz crackers or raw vegetables. But that was it for snacks. No sweets. I raised my son the same way, and to this day, neither one of us eats sweets!
