We've recently had discussions in the Group, about stock buy-outs & mergers a few years back. I've owned a couple of those stocks, but I had to hunt thru my year-end records to identify exactly when I sold/gave up those stocks, because at the end of the year, I don't carry that info on former investments, over to the "active" records. I do have all the closed confirmations filed alphabetically, but I don't write notes on them, about the circumstances of selling them.
This morning I was reading "Money" magazine, and they were touting Microsoft, in one of their columns. Been there, done that .. don't remember without hunting for it, whether I sold it at a gain or loss, or whether it's worth buying again now.
It's made me wonder if I should compile a master list of stocks I've had in the past, so I don't have to go thru individual year's worth of records.
What are YOUR records like, if you have to look up a stock you sold or gave up 3+ years ago?
