Hi, I thought I had formally joined the Group before, but maybe missed a few buttons, so I'm back again. I have been a member of several other AARP groups, and my profile name is BrendanBrat, (or Eileen, if you'd prefer)
My original group "Writing Memoir" so many times crosses into the Geneology realm, as well as my postings of short story pieces. It all started with the first piece about my teen years in Brooklyn NY. That prompted a piece on both my Mother and Father. Before I knew it, I was writing about my Grandmother Lottie, who married in 1892 and lost her young husband in an early Flu epidemic. I posted that on a AARP memoir assignment.
So you see, Memoirs keeps me going back and back to earlier generations, as I do fact checking.
I'm doing these projects to compile a family history for my six grandchildren and maybe a Great-Great by the time I finish.
Thanks for the chance to do this intro, will welcome friends who choose to request me and any comments/questions always appreciatedwww.aarp.org/community/editor/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/msn/teeth_smile.gif" alt="" />
Maybe I can learn a bit, as I have been scribbling down info for years. Talking to some of our "older" generations. Now I am one of those, and most of them are gone to the great by bye and bye.
I have to be in the right "mood" to start searching, and road blocks always drain me. but even tho between myself and my sister and a brother, we have accumulated a lot of infor, many documents, and have had a lot of enjoyment, I still can't keep it all organized. Maybe because, with researching my ancestors, I also work on my husbands family.
The most irritating thing for me, is how these people moved around (in wagons) all over the country!
I can't afford the Ancestors.com fee they want, tho at one time I had the very cheapest, and it wasn't enough to satisfy me, so I stick to the free sites (but still get redirected to paying sites).
But I am eager for any good websites that can stir my interest, help me reach my goal. Learned a lot of family history, met a lot of distant cousins, and it has been very rewarding.
I am new also to the site, so I look forward to learning a lot.
