I don't see it that way.
This shut down has demonstrated one thing above all others.
This shut down strategy the GOP has embarked on is bad of business. When you have pro GOP organizations like the US Chamber of Commerce coming out against it that pretty much says it all.
I don't see how this can be a long term winning strategy, in fact I don't see how they can bring it up again before the 2016 elections. This might play well in the gerrymandered Tea Party districts but that's about it.
That doesn't mean I think the Tea Party comes to it's senses and becomes reasonable , I think they going to double down on crazy and start primary challenges to anyone that won't drink the kool aid. The warring factions of the GOP isn't going anywhere.
It's worse then useless on a national stage , which is why you see people like Chis Christie having nothing to do with it. This is poison in a national election.
As I see it we're going to see a replay of 2012 only worse , candidates who won't pander to the crazy base won't win the primary and candidates who do pander to the base will be considered not electable by the general population.
The difference is the next Democratic candidate for President is going to be a white woman, and the right isn't going to have a black man to focus resentment on. We might see quite a few Democrats ride into office on her coattails.
