Do you also assume that perhaps the great recession had nothing at all to do with this increase in food stamp eligibility? According to the labor department, the "great recession" began in 2007 which coincides with the increase in food stamp usage. Of course that was more than a year before Barack Obama took office.
Also it is a known fact that a majority of those receiving food stamps are where there is one member in the household who is employed. It could be that many people are working, but at lower paying jobs than they held before the recession or that many are working part time instead of full time or that someone who was dependent on overtime is no longer working overtime and has had their income reduced.
To lay blame for the increased food stamp usage on the Democratic party is not only irresponsible, but wrong. If anything it is the failed economic policies that began when Ronald Reagan became president in 1981 that have led to the erosion of solid, good paying jobs where one can earn enough money to support themselves or their family without assistance. Those failed economic policies could be best explained as "the rich get richer and the poor get welfare".
