In Response to Re: Catholic "Rules".......Where Did They Come From?:
"Protestantism resulted from the efforts a great many people who, inspired by the Renaissance, decided to try to do correctly what they believed the Catholic church had been doing incorrectly for the previous thousand years, and whether they succeeded or not, it was a noble experiment that inspired countless millions more to learn to think for themselves and find the answers for themselves in the arena of religious belief."

I won't argue with you on what that Jesuit priest stated. He is probably correct as to the reasons for the Reform.
But the argument here is a different one.
The Catholic Church has the right to create impose whatever rules they deem necessary at the time. point in question is the Inquisition. Boy, did they ever blew it on that one. How many other things has the Catholic church has done wrong, probably quite a few.
But the Protestant religions also created their own rules and regulations, some are good some others not that much. but I consider that the right of any Religion.
The only thing that surprised me, that in this thread you see so many coming to the Rescue of Protestantism and have no qualms in denigrating the Catholic Church, whether they are right or wrong. Is pretty much a unqualified defense. You guys believe in whatever you want. and I believe in whatever I want. and I can guarantee you and all, that you won't see me here or anywhere bad mouthing any Religion like many of you have done. Happy Easter. I am sure that the Lord is very happy with all of you.

If you will observe - I have been bad mouthing the corrupt culture of the leadership of the church. Individuals, with the exception of persons like Donohue, Santorum, and O'Reilly, have not been intended to be, and will not be deliberate targets of criticism.
If you wanna be a Catholic, that's your privilege, and if you're happy with it, that's a good thing.
IMO all religions are man-made distortions of how it really is and how it should really be - all of them are about 98% wrong and about 2% correct.
Actually, that's better than the average for human beings.......must be that divine influence adding that extra 1%.
Am I a Christian? Yep - partially - and a partial follower of Buddhism, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Taoism, Sikhism, Wicca, and Celtic. Semitic, Hellenic, and Roman forms of Paganism, and Heathenism - because they are all aspects of the deity we are supposed to understand and respect in their own individual 2% correctness. Saaayyyy - that doesn't add up to 100% does it? Well, of course not, humans never have been able to grasp the whole picture - probably never will either.
BTW I was quite pleased to hear that Francis, instead of washing the feet of men in the Vatican, not only washed the feet of prisoners in a juvenile detention facility, but washed the feet of girls and especially, the feet of a Serbian Muslim girl. Right On!!! The Deity doesn't discriminate, and quite rightfully, neither did he.

As another beloved child of the Deity observed, "Life is far too important to be taken seriously"
