When you go to the government Dept of Education website, you can view facts as provided by each US school district. Facts that the righties cannot dispute since it is provided by their own districts. States who provide the least funding for education inevitably engender a lack of initiative in students. My state (NJ) has one of the highest school tax rates in the country. In 2012, it averaged at $4,000 per property owner. NJ has one of the highest rates of college graduates and lowest rates of drop outs. NJ has several major colleges to its credit: Fairleigh Dickinson, Rutgers, Princeton and Rowan.
Conservative states have a strange tendency to try and implement their religious views in public schools. This is not done in NJ for one very good reason...too many religions. Conservatives are judge by the words that come out of their mouths. Most of us see or hear those words and the meanings are clear.
Low intelligence and conservative beliefs ARE linked to prejudice whether the bigots will ever admit that or not. You have people in conservative states working and earning barely living wages by comparison to those in liberal states. The reason for these low wages is clear. The lack of opportunity in red states to encourage higher learning for ALL children...not just those with higher than average incomes. But then, you hear from the conservatives that it's the fault of those earning low incomes. Is it? Or, is it that fine old plantation mentality that classifies human beings by income status? The plantation mentality sought to define their culture by way of how much one earned. Slaves? no income...totally lacking intelligence. Sharecroppers? lowest incomes...minimal intelligence. Since there never has really been a Middle Class in the conservative states, the highest incomes are perceived as the most intelligent. After all, aren't they the ones who are the most successful? Aren't they the ones who had the money to get the best educations? The conservative states give lip service to what they perceive as Middle Class...it's anything but. It's totally reliant on the company and the company store as in the old mining days. That's not Middle Class self-reliance or industriousness.
