To make is simple for we the people to understand, let's look at the cake you are talking about.
The Republicans ( the gutsy Paul Ryan first) are saying that in 2024 that Medicare has no cake and social security is close to having no cake too. Thus, there has to be something done to save a fiscally failed Medicare and Social Security.
The Democrats are saying that no benefit cuts in Medicare and Social Security will keep the cake but what about the deficit? The democrats have no plan to save Social Security and Medicare. President Obama has shown a lack of leadership in this and other areas.
My question to those who say do nothing or to those who say increase the deficit and debt is
WILL SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE EXIST IF THE UNITED STATES IS BANKRUPT?
PS Perhaps temporary COLA cuts for all, even though it does hurt the buying power of those on fixed incomes, would be part of the solution until the economy turns around but it is not a total solution to the miscalculations of Washington in the past. And it nowhere solves the problem of the fiscally failed Medicare and Social Security programs.
