I am certainly not going to debate difference. FACT is the US is in dire straits. This administration and political parties differ greatly on how far we can continue spending before reigning in.
I believe SSA is one of our government's best programs. It is so because people are often procrastinators and would have NOTHING if it weren't for SSA. Unfortunately, Congress has bastardized the system by burdening it beyond original design without appropriating the dollars to offset the increased expense, ie disability, early retirement, increased longevity, reduced worker to retiree ratio, COLAs, etc.
Reverting to the topic, I find it unreasonable to expect the government to ASSURE retirees a standard of living based on SSA payouts at time of retirement. I believe retirees should have appropriated savings to insulate them from unforeseen changes and afford them a cushion. Too many are solely dependent on SSA. That has to change!!
