In Response to Re: Proposal to restrict NSA phone-tracking program defeated:
IMHO, the debate is focused on the WRONG issue. The FACT is more people have become aware of the kind of surveillance the Government can conduct. The FACT that this surveillance has been on-going for DECADES and nobody noticed their "rights being destroyed" is relevant. Bottom line: since the Nixon era of enemies lists and punitive IRS audits, NOBODY has had any of their freedoms taken UNLESS they were engaging in criminal activity.
What needs to be addressed is the GOPer-driven "outsourcing" that gave a couple million CONTRACTOR PERSONNEL Top Secret clearances at the same time the Government was purging its internal access lists to the bare minimum.
Thge moronic base of the GOP THINKS becoming a Government employee marks you as a sluggard, a totally erroneous position but one pushed hard by the Reichwing since Reagan began the dismemberment of the only force that can successfully oppose the Uberrich owners of the GOP. The reality is that the FRAUD WASTE AND ABUSE that you hear so much about is almost 100% generated by political hacks and contractors seeking new ways to steal from the public. The number of prosecutions of Government workers for fraudulently taking public funds is insignificant compared to the number from the private sector.
If you want to improve the security of American's freedoms and at the same time make sure we do not pull another Bush-Cheney and MISS the NEXT 9/11, bring the security functions back inside the Government.
