While I basically agree4 with your comment, I do now believe some controls are needed in the supply and demand process when supply is limited either naturally or by monopolistic tendencies like in energy or financial manipulation( big is better syndrome)

That is the BEST reason NOT to raise salaries on jobs that have little value. Companies will seek the best employees for the least cost. When the employees value becomes high (to that company), his/her salary will rise proportionately. If the supply of employees (with any certain skill) becomes too high, their value decreases. When an external force (government) disrupts this supply/demand balance, unintended consequences follow (shorter work week, lay-offs, reduction of staff, company moves/closure), and price increases. Many of the libs disregard the unintended consequences or just don't care!
The OLD system of supply and demand still is valid!
