Exactly, Quackers! Where are all these so-called pro-lifers when it comes to protecting Head Start, or any other program for children born to poverty? Where is all this concern about children's lives when it comes to any social service program? Or any program to get guns out of the inner cities. We just had a case in L.A. in which a nine-month old girl was killed in a drive-by shooting--the shooter was aiming at someone else. This occurrence is so common that it only make the news once. It's forgotten the next day, when someone else dies.
I would like to see a little consistency in their supposed concern for life. There's a Tennessee congressman who epitomizes this hypocrisy. He ran on a "pro-life" family values platform. He's a former doctor who had affairs with six women (five patients and a sales rep), impregnated one mistress and forced her to undergo an abortion, and forced his wife to undergo two abortions. And he's still touting his "pro-life" credentials, apparently without any sense of irony.
I think many so-called pro-lifers really see pregancy as a form of punishment for promiscuous women. That's what they really mean by "family values"--preserving female virginity. It has nothing to do with the infants themselves, whom they would gladly consign to poverty as soon as they're out of the womb.
In Response to Re: LIBERALS AGAINST "RIGHT TO LIFE":
It takes two to tango, but the man walks off and lets the woman take on the responsibility of raising the child? And it seems that most pro-lifers with their sanctimonious religious views are the ones passing laws doing away with abortions, or making them difficult.

Exactly. For many pro-lifers, a fetus is like a car that loses value when it leaves the lot. Once that fetus is born, they lose all interest, because if it did matter after birth, they wouldn't be constantly against programs like Head Start or be cutting nutritional assistance. It's a valuable political issue in the womb.....after that it's the mother's problem.
