It seems you made a typographical error in your heading.....
It should read "Without Public Opinion, Health Reform Would Pass"
It does seem evident that the opinion of the general public has some cause and effect on the issue. Each and every one of Tennessee's 5 Democrat Congressmen have stated plainly and without any doubt they would never support nor vote for any Health Care Reform which either "Mandated" coverage or "Restricted" in any way the general publics ability to choose and buy or keep any Private Insurance they desired.
The Republicans in this state feel the same. Every single one has gone on record to defy ant efforts to cut Medicare Advantage Plans in any way. Both areas, Med Adv Plans and Private need some fine tuning but as the overwhelming majority in this state see it the problem lies not with coverage cost but with "Care" costs. What the Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Home health Agencies, and Medical Suppliers are charging, not to mention Pharmas.
There is a reason the cost of living is much lower in this state than most. It's called "Price Controls". The Tennessee Regulatory Authority has to be persuaded at some length before Telephone, Cable TV, Insurance premimums, Milk prices, and most services such as Utilities etc can increase their prices. For instance if Bellsouth/ATT has made a 15% profit margin for the past three quarters they are SOL in getting a rate increase. My electric rate, already in the lowest 6% in the nation dropped 4.2% effective Sept 1. Dropped, not increased.
I read all this misinformation and nonsense daily and simply have decide to sit back and wait, enjoy the great coverage I have and eventually when this is finally put to rest will simply say "I told you so"
Fix what we have. Cure the problem (rising healthcare costs from suppliers) and stop trying to treat an immagined symptom ( Insurance costs). Look at the Profit Margin of any large insurance company and ask yourself if you honestly believe they are out to rob the public. Be for real people. Look into these things yourself and turn off the news and papers for a month. Some of you might discover the ability to "Think for Yourself" Have a great day! and a nice Labor Day weekend. Tommy
