Great post. Does anyone actually believe that congress is going to do anything to the ins. Cos? You hear all sorts of babble spewing out of congress, fact is , they are beholding to the insurance industry for contributions
Yes, the ins co's give a lot of money and buy a lot of influence, but an even bigger problem is people have gotten used to the idea of employee provided (whole, partially, or just provide a group) health insurance. No matter how little the company pays, many people think that they are getting something at a discount.
It would be interesting to see what would happen if companys said, "it costs be $3000/year. I'll give you $3000 in a health care account and you can decide how much insurance you want to buy, how much you want to pay out of pocket, etc." But if you take any money out of the account for other than health care you will be fully taxed and penalized say 10% or something.
To be honest I'm not sure what would happen, but it would be interesting.
