IS MEDICAL WASTE being planted in your community?
The mayor of our town.. and the body of alderpersons which made up his "staff" wanted to approve a MEDICAL INCENERTOR in a residential area of 86,000 without first performing a study to determine it's effects on their families or the rest of us. The local hospital was to benefit by not REDIRECTING WASTE to an alternate source. I argued against it although I was all for the implementation an incenerator in a nearby town . The ROBBINS INCENERATOR was to be (was being) constructed by BROWNING FERRIS which has constructed same in various location..particulary, Pennsylvania. The construction of the waste incenerator at Robbins Illinois was a last attempt made by then mayor Brodie, to reinsert her town into the industrial scene. There was to be a "waste sort" option with sort sites and industrialization plants from first stage to final stage manufacturing and marketing that spun off from her determination at allowing the incenerator in the bosom of her town. A glitch developed at the specification of "filter bag" requirements. A reprot via a study done by a University of Illinois-Chicago Professor provided opportunity for deraliment from the precise safety measures initially requested and the structure closed almost as soon as it opened. the surrounding communities failed to establish their mandated sort sites and industry was recouped only to the level of WAREHOUSING and TRANSFER SITES. Nothing in the category of manufacturing or finishing of new products have been established. The Medical waste idea proffered by a committee member in town was accepted. Whether it remains or not, I am uncertain... strange illnesses began to fall across town.
There are special regulations in place to mandate proper desogn and operation of both facility types... and it is www.ipcb.state.il.us/documents/dsweb/Get/Document-12283/">public information.
That is one of the big problems with people. They want to create waste, but they don't want something to get rid of it near them. They can't have it both ways. Stop making waste and they will not need such a plant.
If you make waste then you are just as much to blame for the waste facility as anyone else. So stop making waste and wake up and face reality.
This is just as idiotic as people that want to save trees, but then buy a house which is made from wood and use paper to write on (also made from trees).
