To reconize that blacks in this country have not had the same representation or standard of schools and living is not racist- that is the 'state of the black union'. As a white Christian southern lady of a certain age, it is not hard for me to see what he was talking about...and I have lived from Rhode Island to Florida and Chicago and the midwest...those conditions varied only by degrees, and it wasn't just in the south.
Yes, the air traffic controllers did walk off the job- because of the unsafe conditions they were working under put air travelers at risk. They knew they need more, not less trained people in the control towers. A neighbor of mine committed suicide because of a near-miss under his watch. because he had too many screens/airlines to watch- which is what they were fighting against. Another air traffic controler, at a different air port later, long after the walk off, had a complete nervous break down for the same reason. Reagan was wrong- the conditions were unsafe and stayed that way for years, but Reagan was more interested in winning a 'power struggle' than he was the safety of airline passengers. The 'cowboy' had to have the last word. PHEWIE on Reagan. His policies in taxes started the decline of the middle class and the economic mess we are in now. And history is already listing his failures and rediculous policies, so our children's children will know the truth about this teflon fellow...at last.
I grew up in a town which never knew what Racial Tension was. When they integrated the schools they moved the negroes from the newest school in the county to, in the case of the High School, the oldest school building in the county. We grew up together, we knew each other. We still do. The only thing that has never integrated, for a reason that defies explanation is the Churches.
Yes there is a Confederate Flag in the corner of my Liscense Plate, a specialty tag, "Sons of Confederate Veterans". I'm sure in your obviously tainted view that is racist. It is Pride and Heritage and it gives a little respect to my ancestors. The only Negative remark I have ever gotten about the tag came from 2 Yankees and one idiot from where I know not. All were caucasian.
The remark "state of the black union" was plain and simple racist. Why does anything to do with the economy, government, or any other subject have the need to designate itself to a select ethnic origin unless that is the only ethnic group they care about.
I really do not see a point in your comment about a suicide and some bad nerves. I had a very close friend to commit suicide supposedly due to an impending divorce. I don't blame his wife. I knew another who was a Moonshiner and Bootlegger and the second time he was caught he knew it meant two years in the pen. Out on Bail, the day he was to plead guilty he die when his car hit a concrete bridge abuttment at about 70 miles an hour. The Coroner as was always the case in this area was the Sheriff's Chief Deputy. He ruled it an accident and although the man's Life Insurance Company tried to get it changed they had to pay his family $50,000. Plus a year and a half interest. A fair ammount in 1970. I guess now that you got me to thinking, his daughter and I should have held it against the Sheriff for arresting him, or the TBI, they led that raid. Naw I'll blame the Judge who was gonna send him off. Now, do you see how much sense your post makes.
I am a product of the High School Graduating Class of 1968, probably the single worst year in this Nations History as far as internal strife and global surge to force our type govt down the throats of half the world from Uganda to Haiti to Viet Nam. Democrats put us in that so called war, Democrats esscalated that war, Democrats tied the hands of the Military Command to make it a war we could not win. They lied to us about how it was going. But did they get us out of it? I'll leave that for all the Democrats to decide. The world and History Forever knows the answer to that. But hey, Iraq makes it all even doesn't it?
Some history buff who knows the real deal is sureto remind me Ike was sending Military Advisors over there in the 50's. I know. I know their true mission. My wife's father was one of them and supposedly he died in an auto wreck while there. There is a grave about 4 miles from here with a sealed aluminum coffin in it and a VA stone above it with his name on it. But it was Kennedy who began the Gulf of Tonkin Buildup. Bad Vibes here, Gotta go. TOMMY
