Let's see, Frist was the one who could look at a video and diagnois that someone shouldn't have the plug pulled on life support wasn't he? Can't say much about the others or at least anything good. I doubt that you remember Estes Kefauver who made a name for himself in the McCarthy hearings. Had the pleasure of attending campaign rallies for him before my going into the military.
Had one ancestor that was in the Battle of Franklin on the good side, and another over around Warren County that didn't join up but had some cattle 'taken' by the yankee army, so he swam across the river in the middle of the night and liberated them under their noses.
Yep, the Republican party around 1865 stood for reconstruction, and apparenty they are the ones that ends up causing the economy to go south everytime they are in office.
I think I just might remember Estes Kefauver being as how I was always along on dozens of both Dove Hunting Trips and Duck hunts along with several Rabbit Hunts that my dad set up for him and a couple of old retired Bird Colonels he was friends with who were then bankers. There were several trips when John G. Westmorland and John Hightower were present and I still cherish all the Hand Tied Flies and the additions sent to me by all of those along with the letters I still have in my possesion signed by each. I was between 5 and 10 years old when he came to our house several times prior to 1960.
My dad as Democrat, and Labor Union (Sheet Metal #177) die hard as they came. Would not allow anything in the house with the words
"Made in Japan" on it. He was a TVA Construction Superintendent from 1949 at Johnsonville until 1974 at Cumberland City when Asbestosis began to take its toll, only it was 8 more years before it was called that.
I'm a Genealogist and do Pedigree Research for DAR and Sons of Confederate Veterans. I study Tennessee and US History endlessly. I am 10 generation Tennessean if you count the ones who lived and died here. Eighth if you only count those who were born here not counting the one Creek lineage I believe to have lived in the Lawrence County area for untold generations.I doubt you can tell me much about Tennessee or our founders and the greats that followed. I for one, but not the only one do not count Andrew Jackson among the Greats. Of the 254 signers of the Cumberland Compact in 1783, One was my 4th Great Grandfather, James Hamilton and another was my 5th Great Grandfather George Hamilton Jr.
I'll giveyou a half point for the jab on Frist simply because I believe in "Death with Dignity" and Kavorkian is another of my heroes. As a Tennessee State Trooper once said in a Sociology class we were both in: "Forget your Living Wills, sign your Organ Donor Card and if you get to the ER with a massive Closed Head Injury, you'll only be on life support long enough for them to harvest the organs." If you think he was kidding or attempting some sick humor, you are badly mistaken. So I don't agree with everything they do. Despise it when they try to inject Fundamentalist Religion into politics. That is why I belong to Americans United. nd to "FreeThinkers Society" None of them are perfect,
But as history will tell you if you read the true parts, not the doctored clean version used in school when we went, you will find that what was the Republican Party that thought all you had to do was print up money and create Public Works Projects in 1865 became known as the Democrat Party in 1933 under FDR when he had the brainstorm to do the same. Now we have Obama with the same semi Epithany.
Am I the only one who noticed the massive, largest in history, drop in the stock market in the week after Obama won the election or is that something Democraps put over on Republicans. But talk about changing times. I live in the only county in Tennessee out of the 95 we have which until this election had never voted a Republican Majority in any Presidential Election or US Senate Race in the 140 years since the end of "Reconstruction" Which incidentally was the biggest misuse of any word in the English Language in history. Co-incidentally, we, the citizens of Tennessee who voted a Rebublican Majority and also for the first time since Reconstruction have both the State Senate and the State Legislature with Republican Majority, might tend to disagree with your synopsis that anyone living in Tennessee who voted Republican would be an idiot or fool or whatever the term you used, WE BELIEVE IN PROTECTING OUR SECOND ADMENDMENT RIGHTS! If you think that is not a priority issue, you know nothing of the people of this state which is most likely the case.
But yes, Ihave many fond childhood memories of hunting with some of the "Powers" Not that Westmorland is one to brag about, but he sent me a dozen or so gifts in the late 50's and early 60's. Very much prized and appreciated. As are the letters from Kefauver and Ross Bass, a distant cousin, 3rd once removed, my mother's 2nd cousin. TOMMY
