So - do you think there are a few billion non-christians who nevertheless make the Deity you believe in pleased considerably more and more often than Pat Robertson and Ann Coulter, to mention just two blatantly and unashamedly obvious charlatans?

Because I have such a jaded opinion of the mentality of the majority of Americans, I really don't know if any of them would actually know the difference between the Pope and Pat Robertson and Ann Coulter.
We will all see very soon, how this country will develop and try to understand how screwed up they happen to be.
We need to change the culture. and that will be much more difficult than changing individuals in Congress. I have little faith in the future of the US. Unless something happens that makes me change my mind.

As has been occurring for countless millennia, when the young take control of their portion of the world from their elders, they leave behind some of the cherished beliefs and traditions of their parents and grand-parents. The previous generation without exception has always vociferously deplored the "moral decay" of the next generation, but thus far it has ultimately turned out to be more to the benefit of the human race than to it's detriment. For example, while many of my parent's generation deplored "living together" without being married, my parents saw it as a good and positive step away from the hypocrisy of previous generations. Guess you have to believe that you have been able to teach your kids the truly important stuff, and hope they will manage to separate and eliminate your errors, that even though you may cherish treasure and believe them to be correct are nevertheless errors, when they teach their children.
In the seventies, eighties, and early nineties, my parents participated in a program that helped students from other cultures (theirs were all from Middle Eastern and African cultures) learn about the pecularities of American culture to help to keep them from becoming victims of every scam on the block. I found that most believers of Islam in their daily behavior were every bit as "christian" as most Christians of my acquaintance. What one does speaks far louder than what one says.
I still participate, but with people who are emigrating here from former Soviet countries. It's amazing the misconceptions and erroneous things each of us thought we knew about each other.....
