I am both amused and amazed that people are un-aware of how Salaries are paid to congressional staff - or even exactly how much the average Congresscritter has via net-worth. Reading through the Politico article - it doesn't really speak to the issue.
The salaries of non-congresscritters are about the same as in 2008.
The other under analyzed fact is that salaries are but a piece of these folks salaries and Congresscritters have contributed to their own complaints.
LOL - these folks current subsidies for health insurance is 75% and they are complaining if that subsidy is cut they will leave their job. OH MY!
Do people here not know that Congresscritters subsidize their staff out of their campaign coffers? Yep, you can even view that disbursement on the FEC website by congresscritter. I have very little sympathy for those who have burrowed into the system for decades or those who believed that this job was a golden ticket.
Wasn't it the GOP who forwarded the idea that if they didn't get their way - that salaries should not be paid? So now, they are seeing the "unintended consequences" of their own doing and their persistence of the party of "take no prisoner" hostage-like negotiations. They wanted smaller gov't...and now they are complaining for getting it - pleez!
