As a (somewhat) Libertarian, have to agree with the 'morph' comments. The party, as I view it and support it, promotes the idea of a limited federa; gov and virtually every issue actually belonging to the states, or to municipalities. That is, issues are local and laws, rules, regs are local. Take gun rights (which, of course, it a hot button topic right now) being an issue that each state decides on. Thist is happening in a number of states --- very strict laws are being passed in some states whereas the feds can't agree on anything.
This seems like a rational approach to us rational libertarians. The feds cannot centrally control, and be the issuer of laws for the entire land when there are so many regional differences in such an immense country. Wyoming has very different issues from Illinois or Florida or Delaware. I also see most federal programs as wasteful, spending machines that are ineffective. We continue to throw money at various problems and get little in return.
But yes, now it has become tainted because it's more like the Tea Party.
So, I'll keep the faith and stick with the party but try to bring back the ideals of the party and not support the 'pricks'. Maher said himself he believes in a number of the principles, but not how they have been distorted.
It's too simplistic, and unfair, to paint the party and principles based on a Maher diatribe. It's like painting the whole GOP the same color because it has members spewing 'legitimate rape' type comments.
