I'm again asking my forum friends about a will as I did contact LegaZoom and received the document. They were very professional, and I am pleased with their service.
However, I have a question about finding a notary to legalize my will. I was told by my bank that they won't notarize it, but that I need to have 2 witnesses in the presence of a public notary. This is difficult as I really don't have anyone to go with me as witnesses. I could have people sign it, then go to a notary but, as I understand, this won't work.
Today, I made plans for my cremation with the Cremation Society of Illinois. The counselor and another woman, who is a notary, agreed to sign the will, but then had to stop because they said I needed 2 people there as the notary can't be a witness. My concern is that they used a liquid eraser to blot out their names. Now I'm worried that this may affect the legality of the will as it may look "tampered" with. I don't want to pay LegalZoom for another copy of the will as I don't know how much they'd charge for a duplicate. I can call them, but I just need some advice.
Do I need to have my witnesses present when the will is notarized? Will any erasure of names result in a problem?
