The last time I looked..........hybrids were using the same roads as gasoline powered cars. Do you expect the gasoline powered cars to subsidize you? Why should you not pay a use tax for roads? Just because the use tax was collected through gasoline charges for decades because it made sense at the time?
If you use a road, you should pay for using the road.

I actually thought this article was interesting, especially as a new owner of a hybrid. It's one of those "I never thought about it" as we keep getting ever-better mileage out of new model cars and trucks which has started to offset our gasoline needs as a nation.
As others have pointed out, it's unfair to target hybrids as there are a number of "mini-cars" that get better mileage than my hybrid. But, have to admit we all use the road, regardless of gasoline usage. Interesting issue that will take some thought to solve in a fair manner (of course, someone will always be treated less fairly).
