In Response to Re: Family values in the South:
You better believe it.!!! Hollywood and all of California have been touted as the most immoral or amoral people in the US. but you can't deny the fact that they don't hide behind their heritage or their social standing like those Southerners.
Of course, all kinds of things happen anywhere and everywhere in the world. but not that many States in the US.have the history that they have You had Plantation owners create so many little whatever the name that you would like to give them and still think of themselves as gentlemen.
Of course bedding slaves and creating their bastard children was seen as no consequence whatsoever.

As I posted, a minority gives a place a bad name. Not everyone in the South owned slaves, in fact my ancestors was very much against slavery. A great-great grandfather donated land for a church, then refused to attend because slave labor was used to build it. There were many like him throughout the South.
Then again 'slave labor' was practiced by business moguls in both the North and South who paid starvation wages to employees before the unions became active and gained influence. They worked their employees to the death, then had nothing to do with them.
Another ancestor right before and during the Civil War taught Black children to read and write, a violation of the law at the time.
It depends if you go looking for something in any region or country, and you're sure to find it.
