The president SHOULD be negotiating. He and DEMS are convinced the Repubs will be blamed so they aren't interested in ending the shutdown. I hope They understand that the debt ceiling crisis must be avoided for ALL our sakes..

What good will that do if Reid and Obama continue to call for "no quarter or negotiation? Why not raise the ceiling WITH some compromises now? Why should Repubs expect something different in a few weeks after "giving up" with nothing in return?

It's simple why not Karl. The president shouldn't be haggling and making deals with people who are trying to use the full faith and credit of this country as leverage to get their way. If they get away with this, what will they demand next time? The Republican Party is in the process of being badly burned by this behavior, so maybe they'll learn a lesson.
