Golf Getting rid of the bulk of ACA would NOT mean "going back" if we actually concentrate on getting the price and cost of health care and drugs under some control by increasing real efficiency and competition among insurers etc. Laws can be removed without "going back" as history shows.
Medicare and medicaid are not without major flaws, but not using what they do offer would be stupid and illogical for anyone.
Kirk, what you state if it did happened, would be great, but please don't tell me that you are that naive, to really believe that the ACA or any other organization in this country would be able to accomplish what you say. The government in order to have some in that industry not fight them tooth and nail, had to compromise in many things. You really don't believe that the Hospitals, Dr's and drug companies would allow the goverment or Congress to really play around with their profits would you. ?
Sometimes a dictatorship may look like a blessing, The goverment says whatever and everybody obeys, Well, we do have a democracy, and unfortunately a really corrupt one. So. I guess your point of view is pretty close to academic. but it will never happen in this country, unless we actually force the government to really implement a single payer option. Otherwise, your ideas are what dreams are made of.
