After being away from this site and the Single and Mingle group for a while (my computer crashed) I just got back online and did some reviewing of the forum posts. I very much love this topic Kacky. So even if it HAS been discussed before I’m glad this subject was brought up again. As I have said in other posts before, I have found that forum groups on social networking sites are very similar to call-in radio shows. For example, a host or hostess of a call-in show can have thousands of listeners but only a few will actually take the time to call in. Further, audience members may listen to the show in it’s entirety on a daily bases while others may only listen sporadically throughout the day or week depending on the variation of the topics and responses from the audience. By that I mean, the host or hostess know that many people tune in and tune out as their personal activities change and it is important to sometimes bring a topic back that is of interest to all. Because we have new members coming into this group on a daily basis I’m hoping veteran members will contribute to this discussion as they have in similar past discussions and that the newer members will contribute as well.
Now to get back to the topic, I know Kacky already knows this because she mentioned she at one time lived here. But for other reading this, one of the best kept secrets in the world for snowbird, vacationers and retirees is west central Florida. The area between Clearwater/St. Pete down to Ft. Myers and Naples is extremely financially and socially 50+ friendly for any middle class to upper class individuals or couples. Great weather, beaches, golf, boating, fishing, cultural and social activities along with other attractions abound in this area for the 50+ crowd. If you live here it is also a great draw for grandkids to want to come to their grandparents house. Housing, utilities, insurances, age specific healthcare and other incidental items are affordable and traveling by any means to and from the area can be comfortable. When I retired after living in Miami for over 36 years I moved here because I had discovered this situation while doing extensive business travel. I also discovered that people who come to Florida from the northeast usually travel down I-95 and end up on the east coast and people from the Midwest travel down I-75 and end up in THIS area. But then again, along with Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama and I often see license plates from Washington, Oregon, as well as Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine and other odd states in the area. It’s humorous when you come to think of it. Over the years of my being in the AARP Community I have encouraged many people to come and check it out. They have and have indicated that, depending on their personal financial and family situation, they would either move here or snowbird here or regularly vacation here. If anyone wants any information about this area, please don’t hesitiate to send me a message through your profile’s message center.
