I have been having the monthly premium taken out since I turned 65 last year but have not had to use any prescription drugs. I joined back then thinking that I would have it if I need it.
Since I am not presently taking any prescriptions, I was wondering if I should drop out of the program and wait to join if and when I need prescriptions.
I would advise you not to drop your Part D coverage, even though you aren't using it right now. If you wait until you need it, it will cost you much more to enroll later on. That's one of the Government's nasty little ploys to get us to sign up whether it's feasible for us or not. Keep the coverage, but make some comparison studies and get the lowest possible premium rates available. Then later if you need more coverage, you can transfer to a better plan during the open enrollment period. It will be cheaper for you in the long run, than if you dropped it now, and then signed up again later. Good luck!
