I checked at Walmart for another of my just occasional use drugs and it would be $121 for 90 caps. I think I can get it just as cheaply through my plan as I'm now in the donut hole also. My generics cost $14 for a 90 day supply and I'd rather pay the $2 above what Wal Mart would be and have it count toward my donut hole altho once I hit it I don't usually pay enough to get out before year end. I understand fully....I have a very limited amount of money monthly and $8K a year for all the insurance and drug copays just decimates my travel plans and next year will be eating into living expenses....that's why I was so excited to hear the donut hole copay would be half. Also most of the manufacturers have web sites and if you can quality based on income and amount spent so far in TROOP (your true out of pocket expense) you can get cards from them for the rest of the year....for instance my Crestor will now cost me $50 for 90 day supply instead of over $300.....it doesn't count toward my TROOP for the rest of the year but as I said I don't reach max anyway. So I will have to go back to the full $300 in Jan but as soon as I have spent 3% of my annual income I can apply for the card again. Check on all your name brand drugs and I think you can find at least some manufacturers who have similar plans. There is one for my other monthly expensive one but I had too much income this year....next year it drops so I'll apply in May. I'm certainly not opposed to something that will help with drug and overall medical costs but what I have seen of the proposals from Washington will leave seniors more exposed than we are now. When I asked the folks in Ireland what they planned to do about the cancellation of their senior coverage, they said the families would bear the burden.....don't see that happening here plus many families still pay outrageous costs to send their young children to college....something the Irish don't have to worry about. And few countries have the tort laws we have here.....settlements of millions of dollars for supposed malpractice, which in many cases, is either individual lifestyle or just plan fate is just one of the reasons our medical system is so **** up. Before people scream they want want other countries have, they need to make sure that laws are equal also.
Kittykat: Thanks so much for your information it was very helpful. This type of information is not available anywhere else...when I talk to the pharmacy and even the insurance carrier they are limited to the information on their plan only, they do not know what else is going on. For instance...when I started checking on Canada drug compies I found that Advair Diskus has a generic called Salmeterol/fluticasone. Called my regular pharmace Walgreens and checked, they had no knowledge, did not know about a pending generic and could give me no further numbers to call. Next step will be my Blue Cross medicare plan. Thanks again. Ann www.aarp.org/community/editor/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/msn/thumbs_up.gif" />
