I hit the donut hole again this year. I was ill and required Vancomycin intravenously 2 x a day for about 2-2 1/2 hours each session. I had a pick like insefrted at the hosp so I could get the medication intravenously at home. II was charged over $500 a week. but only $100 was applied towards the donut hole. The final cost to me was @ $2,500 out of pocket . Medicare paid for the medicine at $100 a week, but not the tubing, etc. even the sterilyzed bag it came in, needed to take it intravenously. How do they think one takes the med? By osmosis? Thinking good thoughts? I had a nurse come in 2x, again at my expense to show my caretaker how to do th infusions. Medicare would have paid the huge ammount it would have cost if I was hospitalizedfor the the 4-5 weeks I needed to take the medication, but no hospital will admit you to take antibiotics. I live on Social Security and get a small pension from my old job until I hit 65 so I can'tget any help. I live in Manhattan in the same apt, I've been in 30+ years, but the rent is still high but better than most. It makes me sick how congress plays with out lives while using our money for great healthcare for themselves nd their families.
