The Hilton Buffalo Thunder Resort and Casino is a huge new hotel just north of Santa Fe NM. Sixteen members of my family stayed there in October, soon after the hotel opened in late August. The rooms were not cheap, $130 a night, on half price special. I reserved them in June, requesting that they be located as close together as possible. I reiterated this request upon each contact with hotel personnel. We checked in early on a Thursday, when the parking lot was practically empty. The first two rooms were far apart, so we asked to be moved together. We provided a list of all our reservations, making a similar request.
Well, we wound up in three different wings of this hotel. At sixty-nine, I am the youngest of four sisters on this trip. The walks between our rooms were so long we rarely made them. This defeated the main purpose of our trip which was to relax and visit with each other and our families. We still enjoyed the trip, but it could have been so much nicer. Then when I complained at checkout I was told they would never guarantee rooms to be near each other. My response - You won't be seeing me again!
Also, don't go here if you are a nonsmoking gambler. The hotel is supposed to be all nonsmoking. People on the patios near us were smoking and the elevators were filled with smoke from the nonsmoking section of the casino. This was a joke, since there were no barriers between the nonsmoking and smoking areas, and no apparent ventilation.
One must always be careful in the Santa Fe area. I lived in Santa Fe for thirteen years, and one must always be alert for rip-offs of all kinds, not to mention some of the worse attitudes on Earth.
