Hello! About 130 hours ago (or so it seems) I posted a response to your question including the links that state that the Cat is now closed. In-between AARP's site decided to protect me from myself and would not allow me in with the password I had thought I always used.
In taking the steps to re-set my password, I now lost the link. If it is important to you, type into your search engine the words "catamaran" "florida" "bahamas" and it should bring up a variety of links with the info.
If you really need the link write to me!
I found the site (and included the link below) and it says:
Basically There Are Three Different Bahamas Ferry Services.
Actually there were four until Summer 2004 when theBahamas-Florida Express
CAT, from Freeport in the Bahamas to Fort Lauderdale in the US was suspended.
The reason? The company met with to much competition from the airlines. But most importantly, the Bahamian government did not allow the planned route Fort Lauderdale to Freeport to Nassau and back to Ft. Lauderdale. This would have linked Freeport to Nassau by ferry for the first time.
So, there are three Bahamas ferry services left:
1. The Fast Ferry System within the Bahamas.
2. The Bahamas Ferry Services around Marsh Harbour, Abaco.
3. The old mail boat system connecting the 20 inhabited islands of The Bahamas to the capital Nassau. www.discover-eleuthera-bahamas.com/map-nassau-bahamas.html#nassauproscons">BTW, here are the Nassau Pros & Cons .
