I have been an RN for 46 years. During that time I have worked in a few SNF's. Most of my experience is in Cardiac Care, Open Heart and Emergency Room.
I was very young when I started and my brain started to collect subliminal data trends on the elderly and thier long term care needs. It was simple. It was easy. And... it was effective. They lived with the very people they raised, nurtured and cared for during their youth!
Family was important and involved. No one "hated to Go visit" their Mom or Dad. No one would only take their parent into their home unless there was no other option! AGH... but that was in the OLD DAYS! I witnessed it change.
It made it's move slowly but it did move. Now, each and every one of us, no matter how many coo's and hugs and sacrifices we made/make for our children, KNOW that as we approach a REAL NEED in OUR lives we will have to finacially prepare for it!
The reality of the situation is that preparing and paying IS THE REALITY
However, salaries do rise ( just look at Washington, DC). So people that perform the very tasks that relatives find offensive occassionally ask for a few dollars more.
Lord, I do not know the answer but I do know that if families were closer, if we all took time to look at each other and see ourselves perhaps this post would never even have to bloom.
