Hi Bob, It used to be, when you went on Medicare, your concern was which Medigap plan (A-J) to sign on to. Things have become much messier with the Medicare Advantage plans. Personally, I really like Medicare with Medigap J. The nice thing about Medicare and Medigap is it works anywhere in the U.S. is easily ported state to state if you move, and is accepted by most providers. Out of pockets for me are easy to compute (usually $0 though occasionally a lab fee slips in).
We have been using medigap F and now J,but Medicare has been pushing(and susidizing) first HMOs and now Advantage plans which may have lower premiums. The irony is that the intent was to reduce Medicare costs, but because of the subsidies to the insurance co.s the cost to Medicare has gone up!Another example of the lack of understanding or incompetance of Medicare's governing body Congress!
